FLS Power signs $100,000 Grant Agreement with ECREE for delivery of 56kWp Solar Minigrid at Ngiehun, Kailahun District, Eastern Province, Sierra Leone.

On November 19, 2019; FLS Group (SL) Ltd signed a grant agreement with the Ecowas Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) for the implementation of 56kW Minigrid in Giehun, Kailahun District with a 15kVA backup diesel generator and 275kWh of battery. This is to establish a standard hybrid minigrid system design and management based on an anchor, business and community model by establishing a grid network to support 2 Health Centres, a Community Bank, Public Institutions, Several Businesses and about 800 Households

ECREEE provides a grant support of $100,000 which is a 40% contribution to the $276,000 private sector lead project developed by FLS Group. Together with our financial partners, FLS will invest $176,000 for complete implementation of the minigrid project

With no afford clean and reliable and source of power in this community; Clinics, businesses and households rely on diesel generators, using imported fuel for more than 90 percent of the productive power.

Majority of households depend on battery powered torches and a few solar lanterns. These measures will ensure a stable supply of power for the target community and reduce the consumption of fossil fuels through the introduction and promotion of renewable energy, thereby contributing to a stronger economic growth base and to mitigate climate change effects on our environment.

The grant was signed by Mahama Kappiah, Executive Director of Ecowas Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and Leah Suma, Director of Operations, FLS Group (SL) Ltd and witness by the Finda Koroma, Vice President of ECOWAS.

FLS Group (SL) Ltd together with its local implementation partners the Barefoot Solar Women Engineers work to complete the delivery of the solution with an expected to be completion date by December 30, 2020.
